Volkswagen Polo and Jetta: budget options for the city
The most affordable Volkswagen rental — Polo at 8,500 ₸/day, ideal for one or two people around town. Polo's fuel consumption is 7 liters per 100 km in the city cycle, which with an average mileage of 50 km/day gives about 1,200 ₸ on gas. Jetta at 12,500 ₸/day is a bit more spacious, with a 510-liter trunk that fits two suitcases and a bag; it's convenient for picking up guests from the airport. Both models have automatic transmission — in Almaty traffic jams, manual gets old fast. The Polo is comfortable for parking downtown and navigating narrow streets, but for a trip to Shymbulak, it's better to choose the Tiguan — all-wheel drive gives confidence on the serpentine.
Volkswagen Tiguan and Multivan: for active recreation and groups
For trips to the mountains and Kolsai, we recommend the Volkswagen Tiguan (19,000 ₸/day) — all-wheel drive 4Motion and 200 mm ground clearance handle gravel roads. On the Tiguan, you feel confident climbing to Medeu and on the serpentine to Shymbulak — the stabilization system and differential lock help on sharp turns. The Multivan at 31,000 ₸/day is the only 7-seat option in our fleet: three rows of seats, a folding table, and climate control for each row. If you're traveling with a group of 5-7 people, the Multivan (31,000 ₸/day) is more cost-effective than two cars: one minivan costs less than two economy-class cars.
Rental terms: documents, deposit and insurance
To rent a car, you only need an ID and a driver's license. We tell you about the deposit, insurance, and all the nuances.
What documents are needed to rent a Volkswagen
To rent a Volkswagen, an ID and a category B driver's license are enough — no certificates or guarantors required. We accept IDs from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and CIS countries; for citizens of far abroad, international driving permits are suitable. A foreign passport is not mandatory — only if you are a foreigner and do not have a local ID. If you have an international driving permit, check its validity: some tourists from Kyrgyzstan and Russia face rejection due to expired documents.
Deposit for renting a Volkswagen: how much and how it is returned
The deposit for renting a Volkswagen ranges from 50,000 ₸ for a Polo to 200,000 ₸ for an Arteon — the amount depends on the car class and is returned on the day of return. The deposit is blocked on a Kaspi or Halyk card — not debited, but frozen until the car is returned. For Polo and Jetta, the deposit is 50,000-70,000 ₸, for Passat and Tiguan — 100,000-150,000 ₸, for Arteon and Multivan — 200,000 ₸. We return the deposit immediately after inspecting the car — without waiting for "fines to clear" because we check Sergek cameras online on the spot.
Insurance when renting: what it covers and what it doesn't
Each Volkswagen rental includes a compulsory insurance policy (OSGPO) — coverage for damage to third parties up to 1 million ₸. This is basic protection: if you cause an accident, the insurance will pay for repairs to the other car, but damage to your Volkswagen is your responsibility. For complete peace of mind, we recommend extended insurance (1,500 ₸/day) — it covers scratches, chips, and minor damages that often happen in city parking lots. Extended insurance removes liability for damage up to 300,000 ₸ — in practice, this covers 90% of claims for scratches and dents.
Which Volkswagen model to choose for the city, mountains, and long trips
Almaty is a city of contrasts: from downtown traffic jams to the Medeu serpentines. We tell you which Volkswagen suits each route.
Volkswagen for the city: Polo and Jetta against traffic jams and cameras
For daily city trips, we recommend the Volkswagen Polo (8,500 ₸/day) — compact, maneuverable, with fuel consumption of 7 L/100 km in the city cycle. The Polo, 4 meters long, easily fits into parking spots near TSUM and Arbat where an SUV wouldn't fit. The Jetta (12,500 ₸/day) — if you need to carry things: a 510-liter trunk fits a week's suitcase plus a grocery bag. With the Polo, it's easier to park downtown and pass Sergek cameras — small dimensions and good visibility reduce the risk of fines for lane markings violations.
Volkswagen for the mountains: Tiguan on Medeu, Shymbulak, and BAO
For climbing to Medeu and Shymbulak, choose the Volkswagen Tiguan (19,000 ₸/day) — all-wheel drive 4Motion and 200 mm ground clearance confidently hold the road on serpentines. The Tiguan is not afraid of gravel roads to BAO — the hill descent control automatically brakes on steep sections. The cabin has enough space for four people with a full set of ski equipment — skis or snowboards fit in the folded rear seats. In winter, it's better not to go to Shymbulak without a Tiguan or another SUV — a Polo on summer tires may not make it due to ice on the turns.
Volkswagen for long trips: Multivan to Kolsai and Kyrgyzstan
For a trip to Kolsai or Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek, Issyk-Kul), the Volkswagen Multivan (31,000 ₸/day) is optimal — 7 seats and a trunk for all the group's belongings. The Multivan is comfortable for a 4-5 hour drive to Kolsai: seats with armrests, separate climate control for rear passengers, and 12V outlets for charging phones. Highway fuel consumption is 8-9 liters per 100 km, which for a trip to Kolsai (300 km round trip) gives about 4,500 ₸ on fuel. When traveling to Kyrgyzstan, check insurance in advance — the basic OSGPO is only valid in Kazakhstan; at the border, you can get a "Green Card" for 2,500 ₸ per week.
How we deliver cars and accept payment
Delivery of a Volkswagen to the client is free within Almaty, including the airport and train station. We tell you about payment methods and delivery time.
Car delivery: from the airport to your address
We deliver the rented Volkswagen to any point in the city for free — from the airport to the Kazakhstan Hotel or a private home in the Alatau district. Delivery time — from 1 hour after booking, during peak hours (Friday evening, weekends) — up to 2 hours. Delivery to the airport takes 30-40 minutes, to Almaty-1 station — 20 minutes. If you're arriving on a night flight, we meet you at the airport with a sign, the car is already warmed up and fueled.
Payment methods: Kaspi, Halyk, cash
We accept payment by Kaspi and Halyk cards, as well as cash in tenge — no commission or hidden fees. Payment is made on the day of receiving the car: you pay the full rental amount plus a deposit, which is blocked on the card. For booking, a 20% prepayment of the amount is enough — the rest upon meeting. Online transfers to Kaspi Gold or Halyk are instant, money arrives in seconds, which is convenient for urgent bookings.
Minimum rental period and extension
The minimum rental period for a Volkswagen is 1 day (24 hours); for bookings of 7 days or more, a 10% discount applies. You can extend the rental 3 hours before the end of the period — just call or write on WhatsApp. If you return the car early, we recalculate the cost based on actual usage, with no penalty for early return.
What to do about Sergek fines and other questions after rental
Sergek camera fines arrive 3–7 days after the trip. Here's how we handle them and what the customer should do.
How we check fines after car return
After returning a Volkswagen, we check Sergek fines by license plate via the database — this takes 5 minutes on site. If a fine has already come in (e.g., for speeding on Al-Farabi Avenue), we pay it ourselves and deduct the amount from the deposit. Speeding fines — 5 MCI (about 17,500 ₸), running a red light — 10 MCI (35,000 ₸). If a fine arrives after the deposit has been refunded, we contact the customer and send a photo of the receipt.
What to do if a fine comes to you personally
If you receive a fine notice in your name (when renting with a foreign license), send us a photo of the receipt — we'll pay it within 24 hours. Sergek fines are tied to the car's license plate, not the driver, so the legal responsibility lies with the owner — that is, Rent-Trip. We do not pass fines on to the customer with a markup — only the actual amount with no commission.
Accident in a rental car: procedure
In case of an accident in a rented Volkswagen — call us immediately at the number in the contract. Do not leave the scene, call the police (102), and fill out a European accident report if the damage is up to 100,000 ₸. We'll arrive at the scene within 30–40 minutes in the city, help with paperwork, and if needed, replace the car with another. If the accident is your fault and you don't have extended insurance — you pay for repairs based on the service estimate.
Conclusion
Renting a Volkswagen is a practical choice for the city, mountains, and long trips. Six models in the fleet cover all scenarios: Polo for budget trips, Jetta and Passat for comfort, Tiguan for off-road, Arteon for status, Multivan for groups. Prices are fixed, no surprises — from 8,500 to 31,000 ₸/day, with free delivery and insurance. The main thing is to choose the car for your specific route: for the Medeu serpentine you need all-wheel drive, and for Kolsai — a spacious minivan. Terms are transparent: the deposit is returned on the day of return, we pay Sergek fines ourselves. Before booking, check your license validity and decide if you need extended insurance — it pays off with the first scratch in the parking lot.
